One morning a few weeks ago there was a touch of frost on the car windows yet the plants are still holding with peppers, raspberries and what is left of the tomatoes still on the vine. Our average frost date was a little over 2 weeks ago and they are calling for a high near 70 today. I am starting to wonder if Thanksgiving will be too early to plant the garlic and shallots this year.
I’ve pulled the first round of radishes for the as of yet unneeded cold frame. The trick is not letting it overheat with only one autovent installed.
I know exactly how you feel! I’m starting to wonder if I planted my container bulbs (hyacinth) too early. Ah well, at least the refrigerated tulips will force well. But really, temperatures in the 70s? At least the tomato that I forgot to save for seeds is working on producing a last fruit for me. I’ll save that one for seeds.
At least it isn’t cold. I strongly dislike cold. On the other hand, in preparation for the first frost, I went ahead and started to put my beds to sleep. Now I am wishing that I hadn’t.
I didn’t get any tomato seeds saved this year. Most if not all of what I grew this year were hybrids so that cuts wayyy down on my seed saving.
Amen to the cold. I guess growing up in California spoiled me but I would just as well hybernate through January and February. The bears have it right.
HOW VERY INTERESTING! I AM ENJOYING THIS.
