Three weeks ago tomorrow I had some minor surgery. I was only out of work for 2 weeks but this past week it was all I could do to get through work. By the time I got home I was exhausted. The garden received NO attention. This morning I was out in the garden by daylight and hoe in hand, took down the field of knee high lambs quarters and red root pigweed that had pretty much taken over. I left the victims in place to help shade the soil and break down in their own time. I also had to tie up the tomatoes again. I couldn’t believe how much they had grown since I last tied them 4 weeks ago. After the massacre I picked some zucchini, green tomatoes and raspberries. I think for dinner we will have fried green tomatoes, sauteed green beans with Parmesan and almonds and fried zucchini. I picked the green beans yesterday and could probably stand to pick again this evening.
While I was out my coworkers sent me a lovely Joseph’s Coat rose. Normally a flower arrangement is sent when someone is in the hospital but they felt that since I was a gardener I would appreciate a live plant more. They were correct. I have been wanting this rose for some time. JC is a climber that has multicolored (red to yellow) flowers. It is a beautiful rose as you can see by the photos. My plan is to get a 4′ tall section of picket fence, paint it white and plant the rose to grow along the fence. I’ve been wanting to put something in front of our back porch to partially screen the area anyway and this should be a great addition.
Your dinner sounds delicious and your flowers are beautiful 🙂
Good to have you back online. I hope you’re feeling well.
Felicia, Glad you liked the rose. The dinner was awesome. I picked some more green beans today. They were a little on the large side so I threw them in the pressure cooker with some cut up hot sausage and plain beef sausage. 5 min at 10lbs pressure and they are awesome. The pressure cooker infuses the beans with the meat juice. mmmm
Frank, Thanks for the kind words. I am doing better day by day. I am almost back to 100% and hope to be in the next week or two. LOTS of gardening to be done yet.
