I was greeted by a nice surprise when I got to work this morning. A bag of mixed flower/veggie seed and some seedless grape vine hardwood cuttings were on my desk. Eric had told me that he might cut back his seedless concord grape vine this weekend and I told him I would love some cuttings if he didn’t mind wrapping them in moist paper towels. Most were about pencil sized or a little smaller, just the correct size according to what I have read. Go Eric!
I prepared two 3 gallon pots of potting mix. The white pot received approx 6 cuttings that had been treated with Dip-N-Grow and the black pot got the approx 6 untreated cuttings. Each cutting had 3-4 nodes and I set them as deep as they could go with only 1 or 2 nodes above the soil line. I watered them and set them on the north side of the house for now.
I’m not sure if seedless concords are grafted or not but I am doing this more to see if I can get them to root than anything. The last thing I need is more grape vines (I’ve just ordered 3).
The seeds packets included a lot of interesting flowers I’ve never tried. I’ll be interested to see what comes up. Stay tuned…
I would like to get some concord cuttings to graft on to an existing grape vine but I have not been able to find cuttings? can you help??
I wish I could. I’ve already cut mine back for the season. Perhaps a message posted to Craig’s list or the Gardenweb forums?
