I had been wanting a little blend of cacti/succulents to put on my desk at work for a while now. I happened to be at BigBoxMart when I ran across these little guys. I think they go together nicely for now anyway. Of course I don’t know squat about cacti so I may have planted incompatible varieties but hey live and learn right?
Of course the plants didn’t come with any sort of identification other than the greenhouse where they were grown. I tried their web site but they were of no help when it came to the identity of these babies. I believe I have the two shorter ones identified at least to genus. The one on the front left has the whorled look and white specks like the Astrophytum group possibly A. ornatum. The flat, heart shaped leaves in the front on the right look a lot like a couple of the Adromischus, I’m thinking A. trigynus. The one in the back may be a Euphorbia but I haven’t seen anything that looks enough like it to be sure. From above some branches/stalks have 4 sides or points and some have 5. The 5 sided ones appear more star shaped. Any ideas?
Thanks to some kind people over in the GardenWeb Cactus and Succulent forum my baby has a name. Its proper name is Cereus ‘tetragonus’ aka Fairy Castles.
