The raspberries are on their way up. The bed that I decided to leave canes in for a spring/summer harvest sent up far fewer new canes than the bed I cut back to the ground. Think I’ll alternate and let one bed double crop every other year. Heritage raspberries can be double cropped. Canes will bear in the fall and then again in the late spring early summer if cut back only slightly during the winter. I cut mine back to about 12-18″ while they were still dormant. New growth is about 1-2″ long at each node.
The bed that was cut back to the ground is going wild sending up new canes. I dug these 65 starts today and there are still more coming up. I may end up thinning it out again next weekend weather permitting.
