8 Lbs

8 lbs of raspberries just after picking.

This is what 8 lbs of raspberries looks like right after picking. To be fair, I hadn’t picked one bed in over a week and the other hadn’t been picked since last Wed. Had I looked I could have picked more but I was hard pressed to get these in the freezer. And to think I started with 6 plants in each bed…

The raspberries look like they are growing on a groundcover. Correct???
The only ones I know are on long, gangly canes, and the roots travel 2 to 3 yards away, and send up new shoots. Rather annoying!
    Your picture looks better.

    Rose,
No the ground cover is just part of the garden that I have let go fallow. I mow it every so often. What you are seeing are nicely trimmed weeds. :-) The canes that produce the berries are single stems that will get to about 6 feet tall. I corral them in 2 5′x12′ beds using 4 t-posts and heavy gauge fence wire at 2′ intervals around the 4 posts. Before they fruit the canes stand up on their own fine but once the tops are full of ripening fruit they would fall over without the support.
