Recycle it into a soaker hose.

I was needing a soaker hose for a couple of beds. The plan was to put it under some mulch to keep it out of site and cut down on the evaporation. I decided to make one and built a quick and easy tool to help speed things up. This can be done with an old leaky hose or a new $5 hose from a local BB store.

First I drove some 1 1/2″ flat head nails through a scrap piece of wood. I spaced the nails at about 1″ apart. I then nailed another piece of wood on top of the first. This will keep the nails from being pushed back through the wood during use.

Using a scrap board to protect what ever you are using as a table, pass the hose over the wood and press down with the punching tool. The hose I am working with was a light duty hose so it didn’t take much force to make the holes. I didn’t go all the way through the other side of the hose but I could have with a little more force. It took me about 10-15 minutes from start to finish and I estimate there are about 600 holes in my 50′ hose. I capped off the end and laid it out making sure there were no kinks.

Turn the water on just till droplets start to form at the holes. If you turn it on too high it will spray. Enjoy
