Goodies for the cat

April 10th, 2007 · No Comments

After getting tired of chasing the cat out of my plants I decided to do a bit of research. It seems that wheat grass is good for kitties and I have lots of wheat berries so…

Wheat grass grown for our cat

If Katicus likes it I’ll probably invest in a nicer shallow container. The container in the photo above has been growing under lights for a little over a week. I started out by soaking the whole wheat berries (this is white wheat) overnight in some water in a sprouting jar (aka 1 pt wide moutch canning jar). They were rinsed twice a day and drained well after each rinsing. This went on a couple of days till they sprouted. The sprouts were placed on top of moist soil fairly thickly (touching), covered with about 1/4″ of soil and placed under lights. If you had a sunny windowsill you wouldn’t need the lights but this container is going in a window that gets very little morning sun and I wanted to give it a good head start.
