Kerry,
Couldn't find your email contact info (it is probably quite obvious and I'm just a dullard) but I wanted to thank you for you input on my blog. Your comments were appreciated especially because of the sincerity in which they were put forth. I applaud your spirit to prevail despite adversity and rest assured, should there ever be a vote concerning same-sex civil marriages, you have all 4 of them in my household ('cept Harley and Mr. Man cause so far, pets aren't allowed to vote ;-)

In late winter/early spring of 2000 I planted 7 plants total of Northcountry and Northsky low bush blueberries in 5 gallon buckets. They are hardy to about 30-40 below 0F and only get about 18-24" wide and about 18" tall so they are perfect for containers. The biggest problem I have had with them (aside from having to net them to keep the birds out) has been pollination. You have to have two varieties for pollination and here they tend to bloom before the bees are out and about in the spring. That may not be a problem farther north. Early each spring I see a single lone bumble bee doing her best to pollinate all of the 6 remaining plants. I've done everything but build a shrine to her in hopes she will bring back some friends.

I am going to order two or three more of another variety called Northblue within the next week or so. The labels of my 6 remaining plants are long gone so I don't know if I have 4 of 1 kind and 2 of another or 3 and 3. I'm hoping that by adding Northblue to the mix (and making sure I get a more permanent labelling system this time) I'll be set.
