When I looked into building a cold frame I knew I wanted the automatic openers. The potential problem I found with glass (other than the breakage factor) was the weight. I would have had to made smaller openings and more of them to keep the weight down for the openers. They say they will raise 10-15 lbs but I've heard that is generous.

WHEN you get your frame built you will have to post pics. It only took me a number of years to actually get mine done but I am really glad I did.

One of our dreams is to build a cold frame to grow lettuces and other greens. I'd like an old-fashioned one made with glass panels but it does seem impractical.
