As long as it is not a microwave oven I wouldn't see a problem using it without the glass. I have been for a couple of years now. It doesn't seem to hold the heat as well but other than that no problems.

Friday, February 19, 2010. My glass oven door explored. I turned the oven on to 400 degree and waited for it to pre heat. After 10 minutes I placed my hands on handle of the oven so I could place the cake in the oven and it exploded. It was the most freaky and dangerous situation I have ever encounter. I called GE warranty department to report this accident and have it repair. I also asked had this incident ever happen to any customer. The customer services was stated no and was not friendly about the situation. He asked why did I turned the oven on 400 and did I let preheat? The type of oven I have is digital setting so, I can not manuelly turn it to 400. This incident should be reported U.S. Consumer Safey Commission. This very dangerous.

I too have a barely 5 year-old GE Monogram microwave oven glass that shattered spontaneously while we were on vacation. It was fine the morning we left (1/24/10), but when we returned 5 days later on entering the house, I noticed the shattered glass on my microwave oven. I have had a big run around with my extended warranty company initially denying the claim, but it is still pending.
Wish me luck!
