Quickie Slushies

July 3rd, 2005 · No Comments

The strawberry harvest was good to us this year. Not great, but good. The chest freezer has a half a dozen or so vacuum bags of strawberries and one bag of blackberries from yesteryear. The fruit is frozen individually, or, in the case of the strawberries, cut up and frozen on trays. These are packed in vacuum bags and packed away in the freezer for days just like today.

Several years ago I discovered that the blade to my blender would fit perfectly on a regular size pint or qt canning jar. Not long after that the Quickie Slushie was born.

It couldn’t get much easier. 1. Place frozen fruit (I used blackberries and strawberries) and the sweetener of your choice in the jar to just about the 3/4 full point. Any higher than this won’t allow for the expansion during the blending. 2. Add milk to about the top of the fruit. 3. Screw on the blade, ring and bottom. 4. Blend till smooth. I pulse it a couple of times. Sometimes the fruit sticks and you have to take it off the blender and shake it a time or two then pulse it some more. 5. Enjoy.

Cleanup consists of a jar, spoon, the blade, ring and bottom. You can add half a banana, peanut butter etc. Nothing better for those 90+F days.
